Michael Bentley vs Mitt Romney and the Funny Social Media Showdown

In the summer of 2012, the country was heavily involved in the presidential race of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney was leading the polls in July, he was gaining more of Obama’s niche with the youngsters, and Obama’s campaign team was in trouble.

Romney and his team saw how President Obama won the 2008 election using a strategic plan to make sure they sealed not the popular vote, but the Electoral College. A good majority of this planning and campaigning from Obama’s team came from his social media and outreach to younger voters online.

Romney was winning the polls, but he was still behind in every aspect in terms of social media. Romney needed to boost his viral presence, and he contacted several companies to do so including Publicist Michael Bentley.

Bentley ran seven unique “twitter booster companies”, including 20Hub and DaliHub, and he had been involved in “faking social media” since the early days of mypace.com. Bentley had also been linked to the boosting of some high profile accounts that might or might not include Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Bentley was willing to help out Romney and his staff. He was a willing Republican kid with the online and social media knowledge that Romney’s crew knew could help and help instantly. Romney’s Twitter jumped with 150,000 new followers in just one weekend in July.

The only problem was, Bentley wasn’t a Republican, and beyond making some quick money, he wasn’t interested in Romney winning the election.

Bentley was paid, and he did exactly what he was paid to do. He provided Romney with the followers. Romney didn’t care who was following him, he just needed the boost to look credible online

“When the order first came in I thought it was a Romney parody account, a joke, or something. They didn’t send an NDA, They didn’t ask any questions, it was a pretty simple purchase. They didn’t ask for targeted followers so we had some fun. We added 10 thousand accounts from Iraq based twitters, we had over 400 fake Bin Laden accounts not only added, but they re-tweeted him automatically. We had fun with it.”

50 Cent dodges court as he faces trial for posting woman’s sex tape on Internet

Rapper 50 Cent dodged a defamation trial in New York State court Tuesday by filing a bankruptcy petition in federal court and asking the feds to remove the case from state jurisdiction.

Lawyers for the Queens-born rapper, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, gave no inclination that he was going to file the bankruptcy claim in Connecticut, where he has a home in Farmington.

Lastonia Leviston, 36, sued Jackson in 2010 claiming that he violated her privacy by posting a video of her on the web that showed her having sex with her boyfriend.

Court papers say Jackson superimposed his own photo onto the male in the video so that the tape would taunt his rival Rick Ross, who is the father of Leviston’s child. Ross was not the boyfriend in the video.

Jackson’s lawyers were supposed to be in Manhattan Supreme Court at 11 a.m. Tuesday to pick a jury for the long-awaited civil trial.

As Leviston’s team of six lawyers waited for the rapper’s lawyers to show, they suddenly got an email saying that Jackson had filed for bankruptcy protection for a company that he substantially owns, SMS Productions LLC.

Jackson’s lawyers contend that since he is the primary owner of SMS, this means he, too, is protected from lawsuits by bankruptcy law and they moved to have Leviston’s case to federal jurisdiction.

The papers were filed in federal court about 10 minutes before the lawyers were supposed to show up in state court to pick a jury for the Leviston trial.

“This is the most egregious case of sandbagging,” Hunter Shkolnik, one of Leviston’s lawyers, told Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Paul Wooten.

B.B. King’s Daughters Believe He Was Poisoned

We’re following new information in the death of blues legend B.B. King.
The singer’s daughters are now coming forward — alleging their father was poisoned.

Our sister station in Memphis spoke with the attorney for King’s daughters.

They have requested an investigation into his death, and an autopsy has been performed.

An affidavit states they believe King’s manager, along with his personal assistant, gave him “foreign substances to induce his premature death.”

Toxicology tests could take up to eight weeks.

King’s burial is still scheduled for this weekend.

Birdman Has to $2 Million in Taxes

The Cash Money boss was recently hit with two federal tax liens — one from December of 2014 and another from February of 2015 for a total $1,942,400.58. He tried his old trick of non-payment, and the government responded by telling him they were about to start taking his assets and property.

So Birdman promptly paid them the whole two mil.

The government: still the biggest, baddest gangstas of them all.

Asap Rocky loses 100,000 IG followers

A$AP Rocky’s Instagram collage experiment cost himself 100,000 followers.

A$AP Rocky has been known to be one to push the envelope, especially when it comes to art and fashion.

Last week, the Harlem, New York native began posting numerous pics on his Instagram account in succession. Most of the posts were just squares with little more than a simple gray, black or white gradient fill. Those who didn’t understand or just got tired of their feed filling up unfollowed the A$AP Mob rapper. He now has 100,000 less followers on the social media site in the name of art.

The final result of Rocky’s 100 posts is an art collage called “digital installation” and is meant to be viewed on a smartphone. It was a collaboration with Robert Gallardo, a member of the Rocky’s new internal creative team, AWGE. “digital installation” also samples artwork by Daniel Arsham and Tan Camera.

The long form post also provides promotion for A$AP Rocky’s forthcoming sophomore studio album, At.Long.Last.A$AP, which is slated for release on June 2.

Shady Records/Interscope Records To Release Soundtrack to Southpaw, Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Shady Records/Interscope Records will release Southpaw (Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture), soundtrack to The Weinstein Company motion picture Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. The album- which will feature new songs created for and inspired by the film and more- will be released this July. Shady Records founder Eminem also serves as the album’s executive producer. The DJ Khalil produced first single from the soundtrack, Eminem’s “Phenomenal,” appears in the trailer of the new movie.

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and written by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield), is the riveting story of Billy “The Great” Hope, the reigning light heavyweight boxing champion of the world (played by Academy Award nominee Gyllenhaal). Hope seemingly has it all, with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife (Rachel McAdams) an adorable daughter (Oona Laurence) and a lavish lifestyle. When tragedy strikes and his lifelong manager and friend (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits bottom, and turns to an unlikely savior at a local gym, Tick Willis (Forest Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer to the city’s toughest amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Billy enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves. The movie will be released nationally on July 24 and also features singers Rita Ora and Tyrese Gibson along with boxer Victor Ortiz in the cast.

Said Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg: “We have been involved in developing Southpaw since it’s inception and Eminem has dedicated himself to ensuring that this film captured his passion for the project through his music. We’ve assembled a great soundtrack to accompany what’s sure to be one of the finest boxing films ever.”
