The first leak from the highly anticipated joint project, Deadly Combo, between Indiana hip hop artists, Michael Barber and Matty Moe, is here and it features Nappy Roots affiliate, Renzo St. Charles.

The song is titled, Semantics. It showcases the lyrical abilities of all 3 MCs with Barber leading off spitting clever lines in his 16 bars such as, “famous with these lines like Jordan and that Free Throw… on my own hits like Pete Rose,” and “see I’m almost famous, got me jumping off the roof,” and the simple yet complex, “fight it out like two leaders.”

The hook comes in with a Riyance (Beyonce-Rihanna) sounding knock-off singer, and the beat steadily picks up throughout the 2nd verse as Renzo showcases his flow that had him signed to Capitol Records two years ago. Now as a free agent, it doesn’t seem unlikely that Renzo will be without a label for long. He kills his verse with witty lines like, “throw everything, the kitchen sink,” and line of the year,  “it’s going down like Young Joc in a blackhawk.”

The 3rd verse is all for Matty Moe as the guitars come in hard, and Moe’s vocal’s drive the beat to the next level. Saving the best for the last, Matty Moe, delivers perfectly like an Amazon drone with sharp bars including, “spitting 16s while running 16 businesses…” It isn’t just his deliver, but the match of his vocals with the guitar make the song peak.

All three MCs show off their abilities, but all three are very different which makes for a perfect mix on this track.

Barber provides all the production on the 10 song Deadly Combo album due out on St. Patrick’s Day. (March 17th) The album features 2 songs from Nappy Roots and one song from Wu Tang Clan member, Streetlife.
